FORD PREFECT

- Canon: Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy - BOOKS.
- Entering Hotel California: Near the beginning of Life, The Universe and Everything, it mentions Ford has been wandering prehistoric Earth alone for 6 years. We'll say, when he enters the hotel, that he has been wandering for approximately 4 years.
- Description: Not conspicuously tall, his features are striking, but not conspicuously handsome. There is something very slightly odd about him, but it is difficult to say what it is. Perhaps it is that his eyes don't seem to blink often enough. Perhaps it is that he smiles too broadly and gives people the unnerving impression that he is about to go for their neck.
- For RPG purposes, I've cast British actor Richard Coyle as Ford. I've long thought he'd be perfect for the part.
- History: First arrived on Earth fifteen years prior to its desctruction to make way for the hyperspatial express route. At the time of its destruction, he escaped the Earth with a human friend - Arthur Dent - by hitching a ride with the Vogon Constructor Fleet. While on Earth, collecting information on it as a contributing writer for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Ford blended in by pretending to be an out of work actor. In actuality, he was from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse and not from Guildford as he usually claimed. He travelled with Arthur, a human woman called Trillian and Ford's own semi-cousin Zaphod Beeblebrox (President of the Galaxy) aboard an experimental space craft called the Heart of Gold. After a complicated series of adventures, he and Arthur ended up stranded on prehistoric Earth with a colony of hairdressers and marketing specialists that were destined to become the modern human race. Ford and Arthur were infuriating each other and parted ways for a while (after Ford fished his copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide out of the river Arthur threw it in). Ford went to Africa for a while. He was wandering there when the hotel took him.
- Inventory: Leather satchel, Sub-Etha Sens-O-Matic, Electronic Thumb, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a few ballpoints, a notepad, a largish bath towel from Marks & Spencer, dog-eared Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat script, dog-eared Godspell script, crumpled British currency and an American Express card from late twentieth-century Earth.
- Disclaimer: Ford Prefect does not belong to me, but rather to the late, great Douglas Adams and Random House Publishing.
